    PassivX Technology

    PassivX Technology Shield

The PassivX platform was designed as a modular and durable construction intended for long-term operation in outdoor installations. The enclosure uses passive temperature regulation and materials with low thermal conductivity, which supports the stability of energy storage operation.

    Key construction features:

    • Layered partition: two cement-fiber boards approximately 10 mm thick each and a layer of mineral wool approximately 80 mm provide a rigid structure and limited heat exchange with the environment.
    • Non-combustible materials: the enclosure is built from components with declared non-combustibility of at least A2 (e.g., cement-fiber boards, mineral wool), which minimizes the share of combustible elements.
    • Thermal insulation: mineral wool λ ≈ 0.035 W/mK allows achieving an approximate thermal transmittance U ≈ 0.4 W/m²K for the wall (estimated value, depending on manufacturer and installation).
    • Environmental resistance: materials designed for outdoor operation maintain stable mechanical and thermal properties for many years of use.

    Winter temperature behavior

The layered partition significantly limits heat loss, which at a temperature difference of around 20-25 K (e.g., interior +5°C, environment -15 to -20°C) translates to a heating power requirement of several dozen to around one hundred watts for enclosures of similar dimensions to standard PassivX models.

In practice, this means that maintaining positive temperature is possible using small low-voltage heat sources, powered e.g., from a single PV panel and/or a small wind turbine or the storage itself. However, the exact power depends on the specific enclosure model, battery size, and installation conditions.

    Summer temperature behavior (Central Europe)

In summer conditions typical for Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Germany, where maximum temperatures usually range between 25-32°C, the layered construction and mineral insulation limit rapid heating of the enclosure interior. As a result, the internal temperature rises more slowly than the outside air temperature, and the enclosure exhibits natural thermal inertia.

With proper placement and typical current loads of many installations, energy storage systems with capacities up to approximately 60 kWh can operate without the need for active cooling, although this depends on:

    • enclosure location and sun exposure,
    • storage operation intensity,
    • thermal characteristics of specific batteries,
    • use of passive or semi-passive ventilation.

    PassivX Safety

    PassivX Safety & Certification

PassivX enclosures were designed using non-combustible materials, mineral insulation, and construction with high thermal stability, which increases the safety level of energy storage operation in outdoor conditions.

Material selection and design assumptions were prepared based on the requirements of European standards for batteries, ESS systems, and stationary installations, including:

    Design reference standards:

    • EN 62619 – Safety requirements for industrial lithium batteries
    • EN 50272-3 – Safety principles for battery installations
    • IEC 62933 – Energy storage systems – safety requirements
    • EU 2023/1542 – Ecodesign and battery safety

    Design features affecting safety:

    • Non-combustible cement-fiber boards combined with mineral insulation
    • Weather resistance and dimensional stability
    • Passive temperature stabilization (slower heating in summer, slower cooling in winter)
    • Optional PASSIVX-SAFE degassing system with flame arrestor element
    • Possibility of installation at greater distance from buildings and combustible elements

    Benefits for the user:

    • Support for overall ESS installation safety
    • Reduction of thermal risk in outdoor applications
    • Protection of LiFePO₄ and Li-ion batteries from temperature fluctuations
    • Construction prepared for year-round operation in Central Europe

Note: The standards listed above serve as design reference. Full installation compliance depends on the batteries used, BMS and system configuration and may require independent technical assessment.
